Love, Lust and Lies

Jere Ellis - 2003 Monkey Bidness Music

While John and Susan Oven were writing some songs together, Jere had an idea for one that he wanted them to help him with writing.  The three of them sat down and tossed around some ideas on a particular chord pattern that Jere envisioned for the verse of the song.  After about an hour, the three of them broke up for the day, with the intention of getting back together, later.  However, Jere went home, scrapped the whole song, took the part of the song he'd planned for the verse and made it the bridge of the new piece of music he wrote.  He took his idea for words, came up with all new lyrics, and suddenly, "Love Lust and Lies" was a completely different animal.

Going into the studio, however, he decided that it needed to be sung higher than his range, so he asked John to sing it.  The basic tracks were recorded in Sewanee, TN, at Peter Keeble's Broken Door Studio, with overdubs recorded at Barking Dog.

Dale Brown - bass guitar;  Bill Cole - backing vocals;

  Jere Ellis - acoustic and electric rhythm and lead guitars, backing vocals;

Peter Keeble - drums; John Nichols - electric piano, organ, lead and backing vocals;

Wardlaw Steele - backing vocals
