Wardlaw Steele
From his childhood home in one part of Nashville, TN, Wardlaw could hear, late at night, in the distance, the sounds and whistles of a now defunct railroad. The memories lingered and, using them, he wrote this song. After he had moved to California, Bidnessmen recorded the song as a surprise for him. He then added the EWI fiddle licks to it, to finish it off.
Trying first to sing the parts individually, the band kept coming back to the reality that it sounded better sung at once, around a single microphone. So Jere set up a microphone in Bill Cole's living room and the band took over the Cole's house for an evening, as Jere moved them from room to room, recording the track over and over to compare the sound of the rooms.
